My annual diamond buying trip to Antwerp, Belgium in October, 2011 was another successful one. Since 2007, I have traveled there to purchase diamonds for my store and also to shop for customers who have requested that I find the perfect diamond for them.
Antwerp is recognized as the “Diamond Capital of the World” primarily because nearly 70% of all diamonds pass through one of the the city’s five bourses at some point. I am able to gain access to the diamond rooms because of my membership in IJO (Independent Jewelers Organization). There are 850 independent stores that make up IJO and as a result, we have advantages in buying power.
The trip is almost 8,000 miles and is usually 16 hours flying time, however, it is well worth the effort because the
savings can be as high as 30%. My customers have been thrilled with what I have been able to find for them and were tickled that their special diamond came directly from Antwerp.
If you would like more information about this trip or are interested in me shopping for a diamond for you, please stop by the store and I, as always, will be happy to talk with you.
