I will be leaving October 24, 2009 for Antwerp, Belgium as I did in 2008 and 2007 for the purpose of buying diamonds for my store and to also shop for customers who wish me to find a special diamond for them.

Antwerp is recognized as the “Diamond Capital of the World” primarily because nearly 70% of all diamonds pass through the city’s bourses at some point. I am able to gain access to the diamond rooms because of my membership in IJO (Independent Jewelers Organization). There are 850 independent stores that make up IJO and we have advantages in buying power as a result.

The trip is almost 8000 miles and is usually 16 hours flying time. It is worth the effort because the savings can be as high as 30%. My customers whom I bought diamonds for last year were thrilled with what I was able to find for them and were tickled that their new diamond came directly from Antwerp.
